PROGRAMS

Through sustained leadership, strategic efforts, and significant investment the Langston Golf Course Conservancy seeks to be a neighborly partner in its vision to help establish the Langston Golf Course community as a world-class golf destination which serves as a national model for cultural and ecological preservation, urban development, and community engagement. The Conservancy supports local youth golf enrichment and literacy initiatives and will raise funding to support course improvement efforts as defined by managers National Links Trust, related to enhancing playability, improving the course aesthetic, and environmental and ecological factors.

HISTORIC & CULTURAL PRESERVATION

The Conservancy plans to bring engaging, interactive storytelling and exhibitions featuring artifacts, works of art, audio, video and photography significant to the history of African American trailblazers in golf.

COLLEGIATE GOLF OUTREACH

The Conservancy will play a proactive role in helping to raise funds for future development of a Howard University golf practice facility that would ideally feature an expansive outdoor driving range, indoor climate-controlled bays, and locker rooms.

YOUTH GOLF EDUCATION

The Conservancy is committed to engaging  D.C. youth to grow familiarity with the game through adaptive learning skills, as they learn to play the game and appreciate golf’s traditions.

COURSE REVITALIZATION

The Conservancy will support Langston Golf Course improvement efforts related to the master plan or that are primarily concerned with improvement of maintenance problems such as irrigation and drainage, enhancing playability, improving the course aesthetic, and environmental and ecological factors.

 ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

As a green space for wildlife habitat, the Conservancy seeks to protect the area ecology and ensure environmental accountability and sustainability by supporting strategies for reducing water consumption and chemical use and finding alternative energy sources such as solar and geothermal.

 ENGAGEMENT & URBAN RENEWAL

The Conservancy believes the revitalization of Langston will help contribute to the renewal of surrounding areas. Improved facilities will provide new job opportunities, venues for community engagement, attract more investment, and business development opportunities.

LANGSTON AN IDEAL HOME COURSE, A CALLAWAY ORIGINAL

"Opened in June 1939, Langston Golf Course is steeped in civic history. The course is significant for its symbolic association with the desegregation of public golf and recreational facilities in the greater DC area, and with the growth of golf as a popular recreational activity for African Americans."
